Apple Watch

A line of smartwatches whose first model went on sale in April 2015 and quickly became the best-selling wearable device.

Apple developed and sells the Apple Watch, a line of smartwatches with fitness tracking, health features and wireless communication. It works with the watchOS operating system and other Apple products.

The first Apple Watch was released in April 2015. Apple has introduced a new generation each September, labeled a Series, with some exceptions.

Why it matters

The first Apple Watch quickly became the world's best-selling wearable device. Apple sold 4.2 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2015. By December 2022, more than 115 million people were estimated to use one.
